About

We want indies to keep making the games we love to play, and we believe worker power and ownership is the only viable future for the video game industry in Canada.

To do our bit, we've developed coop.cool as a free resource for forming worker co-op game studios, or any creative co-op. It offers free, private financial planning tools to model money, and governance wizards to draft core documents.

There’s no “right” way to form a co-op, and we’re not experts. But we’ve been learning alongside studios for a few years now, and can spot typical pitfalls and help teams reason about where tradeoffs are worthwhile.

This site is also an act of solidarity with the tens of thousands of game workers laid off recently, and with every developer mistreated or discriminated against while just trying to do their job.

Who makes this

coop.cool was made by Baby Ghosts with input from our alumni, partners, and supporters.

Get involved

Co-op legislation, tax incentives, communities, and support organizations differ in every province and territory, so we're building a national network of partners to tune these resources by region. If you have local knowledge to contribute (anywhere, not just Canada), get in touch.
